Pastels, earth tones. Gold, purple, blue, orange, yellow, green, rust red. Rich in symbolism and layered imagery, a human figure with a baseball cap on with a satellite disc emerging from it. A dog mask or head floats in mid air and another is held by the character. Comic book cell style, an individual frame, a single illustration depicting a frozen moment.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ekundayo (translates to "sorrow becomes joy" in African Yoruba) creates dreamscape imagery with a poignant surrealist quality. Working in both pastel palettes and bold, saturated colors, he also shifts to black and white when compelled to. His work is expressive and intuitive and often unplanned and inspired. There are many symbolic references in his work that come in the form of distorted figures or human-creature hybrids, houses or animals inappropriately placed or configured, often in positions and scenarios one would not find in the mundane, waking world. His style merges the classic perspective distortions and warping of graffiti and the technical theories of formalized fine art. Whether using ink, acrylic, gouache or watercolor, he often recreates effects one achieves in graffiti using a spray can. Most important to Ekundayo is his desire to turn his dark past into a vibrant visual language that expresses the full spectrum of pain and joy in life. He uses art as a therapeutic tool and his art changes as he changes.
ARTIST BIO
Ekundayo was born in Hawaii in 1983. His childhood was rife with challenges and he credits art with getting him through what were incredibly difficult times. He found graffiti just as he was entering adolescence and took to it immediately. He felt at home in graffiti culture more than anywhere else. Graffiti is what introduced him to art -- to use of color and techniques.
After several years of formal art education, Ekundayo decided to make his own way in the worlds of street and fine art. Working in multiple mediums and styles, he has completed street art installations around the world, from small pieces on fences to large-scale paintings that span multiple stories.
