About the Item
Black pencil drawing, stamp from the widow’s sale in 1894 (Lugt L. 3728), dimensions 10.5x14.2cm. This is a detail study of the hand of the peasant holding a lunge rein, represented in the painting “femme faisant paraître sa vache” bought by the state in 1859 and exhibited at the Bourg en Bresse Museum.
On the left hand side of the drawing, we can see a landscape of the tower at the entrance of Barbizon. Different inverted sketches show the village present in the back of the painting “femme faisant paraître sa vache”
On the backside of this piece, there are multiple studies of the cow’s leg and hoof.
Amongst the pictures is the oil painting for which these studies were used, known as "La gardeuse de vache", or also "Femme faisant paître sa vache", 1858, exhibited at the Brou Royal Monastery museum, in Bourg en Bresse.
