This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the artist. Lélia Pissarro was born in Paris in 1963 and is the third and youngest child of the artist Hugues-Claude Pissarro and Katia Pissarro, an art dealer. From infancy until the age of eleven, she was entrusted into the care of her grandparents, Paulémile Pissarro and his wife, Yvonne, in Clécy, Normandy. Lélia’s Grandfather nurtured her interest in drawing and painting, teaching her the fundamental Impressionist and Post-Impressionist techniques he had learned from his father and his brothers. Lélia sold her first painting to Wally Findlay, a New York art dealer, when she was only four years of age. Lélia returned to Paris to live with her parents, and it was then that she had her first exhibition at the Salon de la Jeune Peinture. Later on, Lélia was also taught by her father Hugues-Claude and practised drawing on a daily basis. At fifteen, Lélia participated in an exhibition at the Luxembourg Museum in Paris. A year later, she enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Tours. With her parents dividing their time between France and California, Lélia found herself moving between Tours, Paris and San Francisco. Howard Tangye (b.1948, Australia) has been an influential force in fashion for decades. Lecturing at London’s Central Saint Martins for 35 years, including 16 years as head of BA Womenswear. There, he tutored many contemporary greats, including John Galliano, Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane, Wes Gordon, Zac Posen and Hussein Chalayan. Examples of Tangye’s portraits are held in many important collections, both public and private, including the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), Harvard University and London’s National Portrait Gallery. Throughout his teaching career Tangye quietly developed a particularly idiosyncratic art practice.
