Matted and Framed: Artwork 8" x 10" in 20" x 20" black frame with white matte "I’ve Come Nonetheless" features a watercolor on paper of a woman sleeping and her young suitor leaning in for a kiss. This bright painting features vivid florals and patterns. This painting is done in Rebecca Leveille's signature style with an emphasis on a color palette of pinks, oranges, and yellows. Artist Bio: Rebecca Leveille is influenced by the work of Jim Shaw, Walter Robinson and Kara Walker along with painters such as Alice Neel, Titian, Fragonard and Lautrec. Pastiche elements of iconic moments from history and pop culture play throughout her work to manipulate viewers’ expectation and identification of the current moment. Through fertile elements of symbol and sign, Leveille creates a surreal stage on which to play out the multifaceted performances of love, conflict, sensuality and sexual identity. Leveille's work has garnered praise from critics including Jerry Saltz, Walter Robinson and Peter Frank. Clearly enamored of her subjects and committed to the development of an increasingly rich palette and voluptuous drawing style, Leveille is most interested in getting these formal qualities to serve pictorial narratives without disappearing into them. She aims to balance method and material, giving equal weight to what is pictured and to how it works as a picture. Form in Leveille’s art follows fiction and function—as a result, her art proves as bracing as it is enchanting. Recent exhibitions include group shows ONE YEAR OF RESISTANCE, UPRISE/ANGRY WOMEN, SHE INSPIRES, and SECRET GARDEN: The Female Gaze on Erotica at The Untitled Space as well as HOTEL XX curated by Indira Cesarine for SPRING/BREAK Art Show.
