About the Item

Born in Winamac, Indiana in 1905, painter, illustrator and commercial artist Elba Louisa Riffle studied at the John Herron Art Institute and School of Art and Design. Riffle was a member of the Hoosier Salon and exhibited and received numerous prizes for her artwork at the Midwestern Exhibition, Exhibition of Northern Indiana Artists, Hoosier Salon and Indiana State Fair from 1930-1938. Riffle's work is held in many public and private collections, including Indiana University and the Winamac and Tipton public libraries.
