Aquarelle par Emmanuel Costa (1833-1921) Encadré: 41x55 cm Emmanuel Louis Costa naît à Menton, de Charles et de Hyacinthe Costa le 25 décembre 1833. Il semblerait que son père, sculpteur, doreur et peintre soit venu exercer ses talents à Nice, rue Droite, vers 1845. Emmanuel suit peut-être les cours de dessin du Collegio Nazionale ou ceux de l’école Barberi. Les articles nécrologiques1 consacrés à Emmanuel Costa précisent que l’artiste a été l’élève du célèbre peintre et professeur aux Beaux-Arts de Paris, Paul Delaroche, et à Turin, de Gaetano Ferri, peintre d’histoire et professeur à l’Académie Royale. Il est possible que Costa ait bénéficié de conseils, voire de leçons du grand maître français lorsqu’il venait hiverner à Nice entre les années 1849 et 1856.
