Franco Allesandrini
"Pirogue on the Mississippi" (comes with copy of hardcover in which it appears)

1967

About the Item

Franco Alessandrini is a world-renowned sculptor and painter who has worked around the globe, but has spent substantial time in New Orleans. His locations in AskArt are listed as “Italy, Louisiana”. Several of his large statues grace public spaces in the city. Though he is a prolific painter (see the big, thick, generously illustrated hardcover book that comes with this), his works just don’t show up at auction. And vanishingly few are of Louisiana subjects. This one couldn’t be more classic Louisiana: a pirogue with a Mississippi river shack. He apparently liked it well enough that it is illustrated in the book, as shown in one of the photos. Comes framed. My price asked is within the AUCTION (wholesale) estimates for this work! With your purchase of this work, you will receive a copy of hardcover monograph of the artist's work, where this painting actually appears. It is gently used, because no longer in print. In addition to this, you will receive the pictured poster designed by Alessandrini celebrating the 1979 Festa d"Italia in New Orleans (it is also gently used, with a bit of creasing, etc.) but very difficult to find in any condition. Here is some biographical information about the artist: "World renowned artist and sculptor, Franco Alessandrini was born in Sansepolcro, Italy in 1944. At the early age of 14, Mr. Alessandrini was recognized as a master artist, beginning his career with his first one man show in 1958. His formal study of art and training was in Florence. He quickly continued building his portfolio and his reputation throughout Italy with his countless exhibitions and winning numerous prestigious awards. It was in 1968 that he began exhibiting his art internationally, winning the first prize in the Tenth Annual Southern Contemporary Arts Festival in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and in 1970 winning the prize in the Eighth Annual Benedictine Art Awards in New York. In the 1970’s Franco became a permanent resident of Louisiana, traveling back to Italy for shows and commissions. In 1984, he was the Artist in Residence of the Italian Village in the World Exposition held in New Orleans." Proudly presented by Guy Lyman Fine Art, New Orleans, with our firm guarantee of satisfaction.

Canyon Country by Lu Haskew Pastel 16x20" image size Landscape view of the Grand Canyon ABOUT THE ARTIST: Lu Haskew 1921-2009 "Life is good to me. Being able to go to my studio five days weekly and paint for several hours, living in a supportive community, having family and friends who encourage me--all have contributed to helping me become an artist. Being fortunate to study with some of the artists I admire has kept me painting from the garden, people and my favorite things. With the support of galleries, teaching and doing demos, how could I do anything else? My goal is to try to be the best I can be by always being a student, looking for new ideas and stretching my horizons." Upon retirement from a 33-year teaching career, Lu rented a studio in Loveland and began concentrating on her oil and watercolor painting. Learning from artists she had followed and admired throughout the years her painting became a full time career. Since 1992, she has studied with renowned painters Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, Joyce Pike, and others at the Scottsdale Art...
