Signed lower right, 'Frank M. Hamilton' for Frank Moss Hamilton (American, 1930-1999) and painted circa 1965. Titled, verso, 'The Smugglers, Hong Kong' on artist card and inscribed, 'Kowloon, Hong Kong'. Previously with: Galaxy Gallery, Phoenix, Arizona (label verso). Born in Missouri, Frank Moss Hamilton first studied at the University of Kansas and, subsequently, at Stanford University where he earned a degree in architecture. He later studied watercolor painting with the American Impressionist landscape painter, Eliot O'Hara. In addition to his career as an architect and fine artist, Hamilton was also a respected teacher, including at the San Francisco Art Institute. Between the 1940s and 1970s, Hamilton held one-man exhibitions in Laguna Beach at the Festival of the Arts, winning first place awards in 1963, 1964 and 1965. He also exhibited in New York City, at Humboldt State College, at the Richmond Art Center and at the Franklin Mint Yearly Western Show where he was awarded first prize in 1972. Frank Moss Hamilton was a member of the California Watercolor Society and he is listed in Mantle Fielding's Dictionary of American Painters, Sculptors and Engravers.
