- Kent LandscapeBy Rowland HilderLocated in London, GBRowland Hilder 1905 - 1993 Kent Landscape Watercolour, signed lower right Image size: 23 x 34 cm Framed Though of staunch English stock, Hilder chanced to be born in Long Island, New York, where as a child he caught his first glimpse of pictures hanging on walls when his father took him to the mansions of the resident millionaires. When war broke out the family sailed back to England; and when it was over a perceptive schoolmaster, recognising a natural talent for drawing, set him on the road to Goldsmiths' College, in London. There he joined the etching class, but soon transferred to drawing under the noted illustrator Edmund J. Sullivan, to which Hilder acknowledged a lifelong debt. He developed into a versatile illustrator and draughtsman, with commissions that ranged from a 1930 edition of Mary Webb...Category

- View of Dunoon on the ClydeLocated in Hillsborough, NCScottish artist Robert Carrick (1829-1904) is renowned for his landscape and figurative paintings in oil and watercolor. This painting features detailed drawings of figures in the foreground with wagon, and the town and scenery in the background, painted over in watercolor in rich raw umber and red-brown tones in the foreground and blue green tones in the background. Carrick showed promise at a young age, exhibiting his work at the Royal Academy age 16. He was a member of the Royal Institute. This two-toned watercolor work has detailed figures, wagon with hay in the forefront above a view of Dunoon town near Glasgow as it was long ago. Signed by the artist, lower left with an inscription that reads: 'View of Dunoon, Argyllshire drawn by Robert Carrick, Glasgow, for David Allan'. Verso includes a copy of the same inscription. Saltire Gallerie replaced the cracked and dirty plain glass with art glass and added an acid-free paper behind the work. While doing this work we found an art giclee, included with the painting. Presented in a patterned wooden frame with art glass. Dunoon was a thriving town on the river at the time of this work, and later became part of Glasgow. The view from above the town is a popular one, as Saltire Gallerie has another view of Dunoon from above by Scottish artist Patrick Downie...Category

Fabien Granet is pursuing a research on the perception of the landscape, on our ways of trying to represent it, to understand it, to understand its structures. The drawn "landscapes" are thus as many projections of the artist, which convene and reveal his artistic path, the influences of his culture, his utopias, his dystopian fantasies. In his landscapes, Fabien Granet evokes a process of the mind, where shreds and fragments become entangled in a re-arrangement of of reality. Snippets of architecture and geometrical figures draw human and his gaze into it. The landscape is a human creation, but how does human try to perceive it, how does he understand its constructions? what is his mental image of it?
