About the Item
In this pastel by Regina Murphy, the winter wonderland landscape scene features fresh snowbanks in the forest. Thin brown tree trunks criss-cross the landscape in an abstract pattern with sunlight peeking through in soft colors and brightening the intensity of the snow. The pastel drawing was newly matted with archival materials and framed in a contemporary silver tone wooden frame in 2019.

A walk in the woods or near the water's edge can start me planning paintings in which I might convey the feelings that come over me as I experience our awesome environment at close range. Life is so transient; we are so vulnerable; but the earth endures, although gouged and scarred by time and the elements. Murphy was a longtime resident of Oklahoma and studied at Oklahoma City University, Louisiana Tech University and at Louisiana Tech's sister school in Rome, Italy, as well as with numerous nationally known instructors. She traveled the world for study and pleasure to places such as Holland, France, Morocco, Bali, China, Hawaii, Mexico, and Guatemala. Murphy's artwork was a staple in solo and juried exhibitions and competitions in the region. In addition, her artwork is included in numerous permanent collections including the Oklahoma State Art Collection, and the collections at the University of Science and Art of Oklahoma in Chickasha, Oklahoma and the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
