Born in 1885 in Bordeaux, Raphaël Delorme is one of the major figures of the so-called "Art Deco" painting. He received his initial training at the École des Beaux-Arts in his native city before moving to Paris where he began a brief career as a theater decorator. Supported and encouraged by a wealthy relative, he quickly concentrated on easel painting. Although he was not concerned with selling his paintings, he exhibited regularly at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries.
Raphaël Delorme developed a very singular visual universe populated by female nudes and mythological creatures. These figures evolve within eccentric scenographies where antique architecture and surrealist machines are mixed. A true harmony emerges from his compositions with an always impeccable drawing and realized in cold tones characteristic of his art.
