About the Item

A superb study of a cat on a marble topped mantlepiece by the British artist Geoffrey Tristram. Originally painted for a stationery and ceramic range. Due to the successes of the original illustrations Tristram went on the create a large range of paintings and studies of cats. This particular study is titled Bartholemu, "Wherever there’s a fireplace, there’s usually a cat nearby. And when Bartholomew gets too warm, he simply hops onto the mantelpiece to cool down a little and rearrange the ornaments!". The composition is highly detailed, with intricate brushwork and a masterful control of light and colour. Excellently presented in a white card mount and gilt frame. The artist has signed his name 'Trist' in the base of the stone bust. Signed. On wove.
