About the Item

Abstract cubist style still life graphite and acrylic painting inspired by Giorgio Morandi's bottle still life paintings "Morandi 12” by Hudson Valley artist, David Dew Bruner, made in 2023 Graphite and acrylic on paper in a modern slim black frame and large white window mat Framed dimensions: 33 x 36 x 1 inches Painting (unframed) dimensions: 15 x 19 inches Signed verso by the artist Excellent condition, ready to hang as is This abstract, still life painting was made by David Dew Bruner in an abstracted cubist style where the artist painted continuous lines in the shape of a bottle, creating a shard-like effect. Through the continuous layering of the graphite pencil and acrylic the artist makes interesting organic and cubist shapes, further abstracting the still life. The painting is completed with multiple layers of graphite and acrylic. The painting is paired with a slim, modern black frame from the artist's collection. About the artist: David Dew Bruner’s latest series of drawings are titled Morandi Bottles, referencing early 20th century painter Giorgio Morandi’s softly painted still life paintings of pastel-colored bottles. However, Bruner’s drawings rendered in graphite pencil and acrylic are forms at their most distilled, platonic ideals of bottles and jugs. A student of the Bauhaus aesthetic (his teacher studied under Joseph Albers), Bruner repetitiously spins variations of his design, pronounced by geometric mark makings akin to crystalline forms. He manages to portray multiple views of the object on the same plane. In Bruner’s case, the absence of an inherent underlying significance of the object itself is null. Yet these lifeless forms presented in unique vintage or contemporary frames seem to teeter with personality all the same.
