ABOUT THIS PIECE:
“Harmony, (Behtyie-A13)” is mixed media portrait art by Addison Jones featuring her own portrait photography. It’s produced using gold leaf and acrylic paint on stretched canvas. This is a hand-signed piece with a certificate of authenticity.
"Bethyie is my muse. We met on happenstance when she wandered into my old abandoned ballroom studio. After working together a few times and creating magic she moved away. This particular image was taken on one of Bethyie's visits home. I picked her up from the airport, and as we were driving home we decided to stop in a parking lot and take some photos. Luckily, I had fabric in my car that we were able to use as a backdrop. It's funny how unplanned shoots turn out to be my favorite."

Addison Jones is a world class photographer and mixed media artist based out of the Midwest. Jones uses her street art and mixed media style to portray models from her own modern portrait photography. The result culminates in moody, sensual, and contemplative mixed media art focusing on the humanity of the subject. Each of her pieces are original works.
Addison is known for layering her own photographs into complex street art and using the written word as a subtle texture feature. She utilizes silver and gold leaf, acrylics, and custom paints, including color changing, to add layers upon layers as she goes. In the end culminating in a piece that is viewed as a complex whole.
She begins each piece with a photograph from her own portfolio, and then free flows through each element, drawing inspiration as she works. She often says that her style often leads to mistakes, that later become some of the best parts of the piece. She was once quoted, "Most of the time I am like “welp, don’t like the way that looks” and don’t care if I mess up, so then I do something and I like it and then I’m like “ I love this piece,”" as each piece shifts and changes throughout the process.

Gold & Despair is my adaptation of Gustav Klimt’s masterpiece "The Woman In Gold", also known as The Mona Lisa of Austria. Having admired the symbolic art of Klimt since my working days as a fine art restorer at Vienna’s prestigious Conservation Institute (Bundesdenkmalamt) in the 1980’s, I conceived the idea to recreate the jewel of his gilded period with an interpretive lens on the looming darkness of the Holocaust and World War II.
As a native of Austria, Salzburg, I have developed an appreciation for Klimt’s art, and Art Nouveau in general. For the last thirty years, I have lived in New York City and worked as a fine art restorer, conservator, and painter as well as in the healing arts.
Klimt had executed The Woman in Gold in the span of four years (1903-1907). My own creative process during 2014-2017, reflects my diligent care and thoroughness in rendering the original painting. In 2014, I started with the preparation of the canvas using Klimt’s original size of 54 x 54 inches (167 x 167 cm). For gesso, I used the traditional method of rabbit skin glue and chalk. For the painting, I used oil paints and genuine 23.5 karat gold in various shades, as well as silver leaves, to magnify the brilliant sheen of Klimt’s gold...
