Angelica Bergamini
Angelica Bergamini is an Italian born New York-based artist. She spent academic years in Spain at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Granada and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid and graduated with honors in painting from the Fine Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. Since 2006 she has been studying color psychology. Bergamini’s work explores the relationship between the personal and collective unconscious, generating a porosity between aesthetic and ethical values. Cross-cultural studies and interest for philosophy also guide a great part of her creation which manifests through painting and paper-cuts assemblages, video and sculptural installations. In 2012, she was commissioned by the Hyatt Union Square in New York, a site-specific art project, and in 2015, her collaboration with Italian writer Chicca Gagliardo was presented at the Turin International Book Fair. Her works have been part of collective shows in New York (Tanja Grunert Gallery, White Box, and BRIC Arts Media), Los Angeles (Torrance Art Museum), London (Chelsea Space), Paris (Galerie Arnaud Lefebvre), Stockholm (Färgfabriken), Milan (Pari Dispari) and in Hong Kong (Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery). And part of private collections in the USA, Europe, China and Israel. Her most recent solo show was at the Ivy Brown Gallery in New York City. She is currently working on a video series based on the animation of her mixed media on paper, and her latest video will be screened at the 55th Pesaro International Film Festival of New Cinema in Italy in June. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

- Sculpture; 'Portal'By Kelly Bugden + Van WifvatLocated in New York, NYThe artistic collaboration of Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat has produced a thought-provoking body of sculptures, paintings, and constructions. Nature, childhood memories, and everyday archetypes take shape in unexpected combinations of materials. The works emerged as the tactile and visual senses channeled the ritualistic power and materiality of selected artifacts. The resulting objects exist in a space between what they were originally and what they could become. A wheel, for example, is distorted as if seen through a prism. Their collaboration grew out of years of shaping materials into one-of-a-kind objects. Intuitively, the process of creating with their hands took an inward turn. Prism is a travelogue through memories and dreams, yielding abstract forms that capture moments of transformation. Van Wifvat grew up with eight siblings and studied sculpture and environmental design in Minneapolis at MCAD. In 1979, he opened a storefront art gallery to promote the work of local artists. The space featured printed materials—art books, periodicals, fanzines, and postcard’s. Wifvat moved to New York in 1983 to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons. In 1987, he co-founded Van Gregory & Norton design studio, specializing in convex mirrors and curtain hardware...Category

- Fiber painting: 'Arras no. 4: Life'By Gin StoneLocated in New York, NYHand-dyed ghost gear netting*, muslin, adhesive, foam, paint, pins, reclaimed copper flashing Recovered Ghost Gear Data: Retrieval Coordinates: 42° 10ʹN 69°52ʹW Retrieval Vessel: F/V Donna Marie (Groundfish Trawler/Scallop Dragger out of Provincetown) Water Depth: approx. 100 fathoms/183 meters/600 feet Source: pre-Magnuson-Stevens Act* foreign, most likely Russian, fishing net 'I am a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on ecofeminism using fiber and mixed media constructions. My materials include hand-dyed commercially fished line and ghost gear, recycled and antique textiles, fabric printed with cyanotype emulsions and found objects. I change the existing surface of recognizable animals by creating a veneer of unexpected color and imagery. This forces the viewer to consider the shape more carefully by visually exploring its new topography. The creation process can be likened to painting with fiber (that has been tinted with hand-mixed dyes) on a three-dimensional canvas. Intense work is spent creating the eyes and ears to convey the emotion of each animal. I look to the work of Joan Mitchell and The Quilters of Gee’s Bend...Category

- `Irwin w/ beacon`, 2021 -`In;Human Nature` painting glacier nasa moonBy Christian HougeLocated in Oslo, NOEdition of 3. 3 separate pieces make up this installation. 150 cm. x 150 cm. Pigment print mounted on aluminium. Framed in solid oak with museum glass. , `The need for images that can change us. ` – An account of Christian Houges images. “For example, one could say. A people is a “group of rational beings, bound together in agreement about what they love.” The kind of “people” they are, would be determined from what they “have loved.” If we then have a group of rational beings (animals excluded) who are “bound together in an agreement about what they have loved”, then it makes sense to call them a “people”, no matter what they may have loved. And for better or worse, what it is that they have found in common, through better or worse they are considered as a people” – Augustin, De civitate Dei – The City of God. ..............In this context, another series by Christian Houge becomes interesting, because it not only sheds light on the national romanticism and the kind of historical movement it is part of, but also because it provides us with a critical look at how we imagine landscapes, and we are reflected in them, in the historical and social sense. - Two Screenprinted pillow cases (one hand signed by Baldessari) in bespoke boxBy John BaldessariLocated in New York, NYJohn Baldessari Pillow Cases in Bespoke Presentation Box (one pillowcase hand signed by John Baldessari) for The Thing Quarterly Issue 22, 2014 Silkscreen on 100% cotton 320 thread count sateen pillowcases (Hand signed by John Baldessari) Boldly signed in ink by John Baldessari on one of the pillowcases (see photo) Unframed One of the pillowcases is hand signed in ink by John Baldessari: John Baldessari was one of the artists who were invited to contribute an object (or "thing") with text for a special project for "The Thing" publication (read on for more on "The Thing") ; the conceptual object therefore had to incorporate text. Baldessari's contribution in 2014 was a silkscreened pillowcase with text. A limited (unknown) number of these pillowcases were marketed and sold as a set of two in a bespoke box. However, exceptionally, Baldessari hand signed a very few of pillowcases in ink. This is one of the very special sets bearing one hand signed pillow case - purchased directly from "The Thing". (a copy of the 2014 receipt is shown here.) The rest of these boxed sets were not hand signed. The pillowcase is brand new, and will look gorgeous once pressed and framed by a professional framer. More about this boxed set: Issue 22 of THE THING Quarterly is by LA-based conceptual artist John Baldessari. It consists of two 100% cotton sateen pillowcases featuring an image of a woman clutching a pillow. The black and white image is taken from a Hollywood film still in Baldessari's collection and has been silkscreened on each pillowcase with environmentally-friendly, water-based ink. The pillowcases are standard-sized and envelope-style. For those who like their thread count high, the issue clocks in at a solid 320 thread count. Measurements: Box 10.5 inches by 13 inches by 2 inches Pillow 20 inches vertical by 26 inches What was The Thing Quarterly? THE THING was an experimental publication created in collaboration with Will Rogan as part of an artist residency. We saw it as a quarterly periodical in the form of an object. Each year, four artists, writers, musicians or filmmakers were invited to create an everyday object that somehow incorporates text. The object is reproduced and hand wrapped at wrapping parties and then mailed to the homes of the subscribers with the help of the United States Postal Service. It began as part of an artist residency in San Francisco’s Southern Exposure. Will and I had met in grad school at UC Berkeley and discovered our mutual affinity for quarterlies. He was a librarian at SFAI for five years and I had been a high school teacher for five years. WE were both interested pushing the boundaries of publication. Our plan was to create a 1 year publication with four artists, but from the very start the project generated so much interest and international excitement that we found ourselves running a publication complete with a brick and mortar storefront and a staff of four individuals. After 10 years, 34 issues, 59 projects and countless live events, we decided to end the publication in order to pursue our individual projects. We are still working together on a less ambitious new project, and hope to launch it at some point in 2021. CONTRIBUTORS: have included John Baldessari, Dave Eggers, Miranda July...Category
