INUNDATIONS:
This series is an evolution of Chloe’s ‘Folds.’ In this new work, the fabric is hand-dyed before sculpting and not painted afterward. The evidence of water is left unaltered for it is the experience of flooding, drowning or inundating that inspired the work. Chloe is deeply concerned with the effects of climate change, rising seas and flooding. She is also inspired by the history of textile art and much of her textile work is about exploring the medium in new ways. Working with fabric, yarn and thread was often the only means of art making available to women in the past. It was also deeply a part of the daily chores. For Chloe, these pieces explore the overlap between what humans have done to the earth and to women. It is a place to express grief, to allow the tears to wash over her for all that has been lost and what is yet to come. It is also a nod to her female ancestors for all that they sacrificed and longed for. The fabric in subtle transitions of color is about the descent into the depths or the slow floating back to the surface. It is a place to enter the minds of women when working with water.

- Nocturnal Parts - abstract geometric contemporary modern painting reliefLocated in Doetinchem, NLNocturnal Parts is a unique one-of-a-kind contemporary modern painting relief by Dutch artist Sander Martijn Jonker. It is a relief consisting of two open spherical parts with an intriguing matte black finish, perhaps a bit mysterious but very beautifully made. It can be hanged in two different ways, with the opening between the two spherical elements either facing away or facing the observer. Depending where the light comes from one might decide for the one or the other hanging method. Sander Martijn Jonker (1977, Netherlands) graduated from the St. Joost School of Art & Design in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. He primarily makes three-dimensional reliefs that play with the tension between abstraction and representation, surface and space. Light, shadow and their elusive ever-changing properties play an important role. Although the resulting works are abstract, he uses everyday reality as a starting and/or reference point. His work is created through forms of manipulation, distortion, repetition and simplification. Some works arise from the repetition of a simple movement or form, others are made by exploring how far he can go with the deformation and manipulation of the material, after which he captures and preserves the shape. He experiences daily life as uncontrollable and at times confusing. In order to cope with that, he is always looking for patterns and has gradually developed various rituals and ways of control, hoping they can offer him certainty and reassurance. His work and person are inextricably connected. He makes the things he makes because he doesn’t have a choice. He is trying to get a grip...Category
