- "Slow Living" - Original Oil Impasto Abstract Landscape PaintingBy Dana CowieLocated in Los Angeles, CAUsing an impasto, painterly technique Dana Cowie creates cubist-inspired farm and rural landscapes. Working within controlled color schemes, her artworks appear abstract up close and become more representational as the viewer takes in the larger image. - Once Was - Minimalist Scenic Landscape Painting House on WaterBy Mike GoughLocated in Los Angeles, CAGough’s interest in the elusive quality of memory has always been an invariable interest in his art practice. Rooted in memories of his upbringing in Newfoundland, Gough’s paintings are autobiographical but carry universal narratives. In the absence of detail there is an opportunity for one’s own memories to develop. An expansive solitude and sense of isolation is met with a universal feeling of what it means to belong. This unique 16 inch square mixed media painting on panel explores our relationship with memory and the natural world. This piece is signed by the artist on the back and is wired and ready to hang. The sides are painted and the artwork does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and international shipping available. This artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery. Mike Gough was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He attended Sir Wilfred Grenfell College and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In 2009/2010 he attended Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, England where he received a Master of Fine Arts. His work has appeared in exhibitions in Canada, the UK, the United States of America, and France and is part of both private and public collections worldwide. At its core, his practice explores how our relationship with the natural world connects and defines us. Working in mixed media, he endeavors to create familiar meditative spaces that exhibit a personal journey, but simultaneously invite the viewer to insert themselves in the narrative. These paintings partially stem from a fear of memory loss as a result of experiences with Alzheimer’s in his family. Not only does the painting process exercise Gough’s memory, but the paintings themselves act as records of his experience becoming a blend of reality and idealism. They are not painted from photographs; the places are not precisely rendered and the experiences are not accurately told, but they are Gough’s authentic recollection of them. The intent of his work is to create a patchwork map of memories as a guide back to the authenticity of human feeling. - ON THE ICE - Textural figure painting - Oil and Enamel on Canvas Red, Polka-DotBy Eleanor AldrichLocated in Signal Mountain, TNIn the series of paintings titled “That Feeling When,” Aldrich expands the excess of materials to large figure paintings and small, overfilled sculptures. Aldrich uses thick materials that protrude from the surface, reminding the viewer that the paintings are not only physical objects in themselves, but also create the illusion of the picture. The work employs a risky excess of material that borders on uncontrollable; becoming metaphoric for barely controlled femininity, the attraction and repulsion of materialism, and the body pressing against constraints. The figures in the paintings are seen from behind or have turned away. The viewer is put in a place of questioning whether they are a voyeur or a co-viewer with the figure of something deeper in the picture plane. The full body paintings of young women based on Nancy Drew...Category
