About the Item
Adenium obesum, known as the Desert Rose, is my favourite flower. They are a hardy underdog, surviving with hardly any rain. They give a bright splash of colour in the Kenyan desert, where I grew up. They are classically beautiful yet the flower is poisonous. A mix of contradictions.
My technique is a process of development, using mixed media, incorporating rice and tissue papers, acrylic paints, inks and refined beeswax. These build the painting. Each of the layers are incredibly fragile and as delicate as the petal of a flower. The layers are what allow me to play with colour, translucency and light.
