About

Jade Rude is a Toronto-based multi-disciplinary artist. Alternating between playful and austere, Jade uses perception-shifting tactics to explore the relationship between reality and representation. Highly-reflective acrylic mirror, is one of her preferred materials. Text is integral part of Jade Rude's practice. Her wall sculpture "I Can See You" blurs the responsibilities of mirror, signage, art and slogan. The functional element (the mirror) becomes decorative, dialogue becomes signage and the physicality and message of the mirror upstages the viewers' reflection. For optimal presentation, the two halves of this diptych are hung on a 90 degree angle. In this arrangement, each half of the work seems to be reflecting the other and commenting on its position. Jade Rude's beloved text-based pieces enliven any space and bring a smile to any spectator. Caviar20 has been a long admirer and champion of Jade Rude's precise aesthetic, minimal palette and her re-visioning of daily objects and familiar motifs. Questions? Contact us.
