About the Item
Artist Comments
A palomino horse seen from behind, its muscular yet graceful head in profile. Part of artist Jennifer Ross's Kintsugi Horse series, inspired by the Japanese art form of repairing fragmented pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum. Jennifer collaged small pieces of eggshell over gold paint to create the figure and used thick acrylic gel medium to sculpt the mane and tail. "I fell in love with the background color when I realized it looked like my favorite pair of jeans," says Jennifer.
About the Artist
Jennifer Ross grew up surrounded by the art of her mother and grandfather. Her attempt to follow in their footsteps presented detours, however, and she ended up working in art galleries selling other's work. But her desire to paint continued to grow throughout the years. In 2008, a gift certificate to a local art store turned into an epiphany when she decided to try painting. Jennifer found inspiration in a collection of antique prints of birds' nests and eggs by the English artist, F.O. Morris, and began to create an avian series. These paintings serve as symbolic family portraits of what we all hold dear - our home and loved ones. Today, she is often commissioned to paint various colored eggs representing patrons' family members.

- Giselle, Original PaintingBy Ryan PickartLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
Part of Ryan's long-running series of portraits done in charcoal and oil paint on gold washed paper. Ryan enjoys pairing the fluidity and transparency of oil paint with the substance of charcoal. "Much like the ballet of the same name, "Giselle" combines dramatic patterns with stoic expression," says Ryan. The figure wears an abstract dress of dripping circles, her hair in modernist angles. She looks intensely at the viewer, her slender frame elongated by her strong pose.About the Artist

- Where Am I Going?By Heejin SuttonLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
This piece is made by layering Korean mulberry paper on a wooden panel with homemade flour glue. Then I apply a glue base. Next, I draw my sketch, and trace it on the paper. Then I paint three or four layers of a background color using pigments and glue base. Lastly, I paint the animal subject in fine detail, which takes most of time. The single animal represents loneliness. This piece is on a cradled wood panel with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.About the Artist
Heejin has been been drawing for as long as she can remember. She grew up with a serious illness and spent much of her childhood in the hospital. Drawing served as an outlet for her, bringing her peace and distraction. Heejin says there was no doubt as she grew up that she wanted to be an artist. She studied oriental painting extensively as a college student in South Korea and then went on to study art therapy in graduate school.Where Am I Going?
