From Jennifer's Kinstsugi Horse series, this small piece has subtle hints of gold and silver metallic to capture different effects of light. She collaged broken eggshells, taking inspiration from the spiritual art form of Japan called kintsugi, where pottery is repaired with gold to create something that is stronger and more beautiful because it is imperfect.
About the Artist
Jennifer Ross grew up surrounded by the art of her mother and grandfather. Her attempt to follow in their footsteps presented detours, however, and she ended up working in art galleries selling other's work. But her desire to paint continued to grow throughout the years. In 2008, a gift certificate to a local art store turned into an epiphany when she decided to try painting. Jennifer found inspiration in a collection of antique prints of birds' nests and eggs by the English artist, F.O. Morris, and began to create an avian series. These paintings serve as symbolic family portraits of what we all hold dear - our home and loved ones. Today, she is often commissioned to paint various colored eggs representing patrons' family members.
