Artist Jennifer Ross displays an egg in brilliant turquoise. She composes the springtime piece with her signature eggshell collage. "Throughout my artistic career, I have returned to the imagery of a bird’s nest with a single egg above," shares Jennifer. She celebrates the season with new buds on the branches holding the nest.
About the Artist
Artist Jennifer Ross creates intimate portraits of birds, nests and horses. Jennifer grew up surrounded by the art of her mother and grandfather. Her attempt to follow in their footsteps presented detours, however, and she ended up working in art galleries selling other's work. But her desire to paint continued to grow throughout the years. In 2008, a gift certificate to a local art store turned into a life-changing event. Jennifer found inspiration in a collection of antique prints of birds' nests and began to paint her first avian series. These paintings serve as symbolic family portraits of what we all hold dear - our home and loved ones. Today, Jennifer draws on Kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending pottery with gold. Using broken eggshells, she intricately collages the individual personalities and character of her animal subjects.

Artist Comments
The world that I live in is uncertain, unstable, but I have to keep going and find something that can comfort me. This work is talking about the uncomfortable moment, but hopeful future, at the same time. This piece is made by layering Korean mulberry paper on a wooden panel with homemade flour glue. Then I apply a glue base. Next, I draw my sketch, and trace it on the paper. Then I paint three or four layers of a background color using pigments and glue base. Lastly, I paint the animal subject in fine detail, which takes most of time. The painting is on a cradled wood panel with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.About the Artist
Heejin has been been drawing for as long as she can remember. She grew up with a serious illness and spent much of her childhood in the hospital. Drawing served as an outlet for her, bringing her peace and distraction. Heejin says there was no doubt as she grew up that she wanted to be an artist. She studied oriental painting extensively as a college student in South Korea and then went on to study art therapy in graduate school.Where Is It? l

Artist Statement: In a way, when I start a painting, it's like starting a journey. A journey that explores my past, philosophy and the human subconscious. My creations in my view are very symbolic. There are many elements in it that have latent meanings, whether collective or personal. They also have a strong philosophical and psychological charge, mainly delving into the subconscious and the dark part that we possess and repress, contrasting it with the pleasant or tender part that we want to simulate. The origin of things has a great meaning in me. This is how my inspiration arises in the world of childhood - as the origin of man - abstract symbols that simulate cells - origin of life -, the wheel - origin of civilization. I also use circles to symbolize cycles of time and life. Passage of time, nostalgia, pain, loneliness, human darkness, disturbing and perhaps bitter elements, I contrast them like enigmas in environments of apparent calm. Innocent figures with heartbreaking and enigmatic worlds. I exploit all the techniques, even sometimes I use unconventional materials until I reach the desired point of maximum expression. Influenced mainly by Klimt, Flemish medieval masters, Chagal, Pedro Pablo Oliva, Joan Miro...Category
