Artist Comments
Part of artist Jennifer Ross' Security Blanket series, she depicts a dark bay horse standing in a wide expanse of greenery with trees under a clear blue sky. She paints a blanket with a houndstooth pattern draped over the horse's back. “I wanted to give the traditional equine portrait a modern update," Jennifer says.
About the Artist
Artist Jennifer Ross creates intimate portraits of birds, nests and horses. Jennifer grew up surrounded by the art of her mother and grandfather. Her attempt to follow in their footsteps presented detours, however, and she ended up working in art galleries selling other's work. But her desire to paint continued to grow throughout the years. In 2008, a gift certificate to a local art store turned into a life-changing event. Jennifer found inspiration in a collection of antique prints of birds' nests and began to paint her first avian series. These paintings serve as symbolic family portraits of what we all hold dear - our home and loved ones. Today, Jennifer draws on Kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending pottery with gold. Using broken eggshells, she intricately collages the individual personalities and character of her animal subjects.

Artist Lee Smith offers an anthropomorphic cat woman that blurs the lines between human, animal, reality, and fantasy. The piece evokes a positive, uplifting, and deeply contemplative mood. There are so many things in this world that do not match yet coexist. Hate and love, good and evil, joy and sorrow. Despite this, we constantly pursue perfect peace, love, and happiness. My work places two objects that cannot be together in one space, projecting the imbalances and irregularities of this world, and at the same time, depicting harmony, peace and quiet. This piece was made by layering Korean mulberry paper on a wooden panel and painting with watercolor.About the Artist
Heejin has been been drawing for as long as she can remember. She grew up with a serious illness and spent much of her childhood in the hospital. Drawing served as an outlet for her, bringing her peace and distraction. Heejin says there was no doubt as she grew up that she wanted to be an artist. She studied oriental painting extensively as a college student in South Korea and then went on to study art therapy in graduate school.Rabbit & Coral Reef
