About the Item

Medium: Vintage wood pantry shelf with wood transfer photos of dancing hand grenades & cupcakes and housewives with guns, vintage decals, 5 food cans with original labels of citizens targeted by the alt-right, 7 “game used” empty hand grenade canisters (pins inside some) from our war in Afghanistan. Commentary: "I have never understood how some people can consider themselves honest, hardworking, good upstanding members of their communities, how they can give to charity, go to church on Sunday, and yet still be bigots. How they can be "good" husbands, wives, parents, and neighbors – provided that neighbor is not Black, Hispanic, Jewish, Muslim, Homosexual, a woman or maybe just not from around here – and still engage in overt and/or passive discrimination. I just don't get it."

  • 'The Calendar Wheel' assemblage in drawer with spheres clock shells cards
    Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Calendar Wheel' is an original assemblage by the American artist Charles Berg. Within a divided drawer, Berg has assembled a variety of found objects: metal balls, a clock, a sheet of copper punched with the word 'wind,' a Victorian card of a woman, etc. The artwork takes its name, however, from a transparent 1935 calendar in the lower right. Berg here is following the tradition other artists who specialize in assemblage, including Joseph Cornell, Robert Rauchenberg, and Betye Saar...
