From the materials Fonder selects, to the way she crafts each piece; these two attributes remain her focus. She seeks to honor Leonardo Da Vinci's words, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." Kim Fonder distinguishes herself through a profound appreciation for texture and touch in her paintings. Her artistic endeavors showcase a remarkable commitment to simplicity and timelessness, rendering her work exceptionally suitable for spaces influenced by the principles of wabi-sabi or minimal interiors. Fonder generally paints for four to five hour stretches in the morning (her favorite time, when she “hasn’t had the experiences of the day yet – the world is fresh”) using combinations of organic materials - hemp, silk, linen, organic pigments and Venetian plaster. She seeks to evoke the calmness and airiness of the natural world and create a tranquil environment through her work. As she says, “Mother Nature makes color better than man ever can...and our eyes instinctively know it.”
