Kollabs
Artists Luis Garcia-Nerey and Anke Schofield examine the boundaries between undomesticated animals and domesticated environments in their wondrous collaboration called KOLLABS. Each of their narrative paintings — which are typically mixed media works that feature wildlife photography, scraps of magazine print advertisements and more — explores the balance between humans and forest creatures, inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationships with nature.
KOLLABS was formed in 2007 by Miami, Florida-based Garcia-Nerey and Schofield, who lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia.
Born in 1973 in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Garcia-Nerey studied at Long Island University in New York and Miami’s New World School of the Arts. Schofield was born in 1972 in Ithaca, New York, and studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia where she obtained her BFA and MFA degrees.
In order to create their provocative works, the KOLLABS founders travel between studios in Miami and Atlanta. Together, they combine their individual artistic talents to produce their series of anthropomorphized animal paintings. For instance, in the mixed-media work Betty and Bea, a bear is portrayed sitting on a luxurious chair, interacting with a hummingbird, while Valery depicts a hawk balancing precariously on champagne labels.
Throughout the 2000s, KOLLABS has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States. The duo has also shown its works at several art fairs and museum shows including the Affordable Art Fair in Tribeca, New York, San Francisco Art Fair, Art Wynwood in Miami, Texas Contemporary Art Fair in Houston, the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, Tennessee and the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

- Heart's ArmsBy Robert MarsLocated in Napa, CARobert Mars’ graphic compositions and rich colors provide an ideal medium in which to explore his fascination with the Golden Age of American popular culture and the icons of the 1950’s and 60’s. Drawing inspiration from the near-mythical fame that surrounded celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn before the instant and all-encompassing presence of the internet, Mars’ daring approach creates paintings with a nostalgic yet innovative vintage quality. Mars begins by defining borders and background planes of color with sheets of brown paper and then proceeds to layer paint and vintage paper ephemera...Category

$10,670 - Made You LookBy Robert MarsLocated in Napa, CARobert Mars’ graphic compositions and rich colors provide an ideal medium in which to explore his fascination with the Golden Age of American popular culture and the icons of the 1950’s and 60’s. Drawing inspiration from the near-mythical fame that surrounded celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn before the instant and all-encompassing presence of the internet, Mars’ daring approach creates paintings with a nostalgic yet innovative vintage quality. Mars begins by defining borders and background planes of color with sheets of brown paper and then proceeds to layer paint and vintage paper ephemera. He selectively sands segments of the layers, allowing specific portions of the underpainting to shine through, creating the sensation that the viewer is getting glimpses through a window into the Golden Age of America. By incorporating actual pieces of print from the eras he so adores and sealing it all under shining, impenetrable resin, Mars’s artworks transform into physical remembrances of a period in America’s past so loved and idolized, yet will forever remain trapped in history. A graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York, his artwork was selected for the Absolut Vodka Blank campaign alongside Damien Hirst, and his largest sized piece to date was acquired by Philip Morris/Altria for their corporate headquarters in Virginia. In 2015 Mars was chosen for the cover of Neiman Marcus’ May Book, while CocaCola purchased several existing works and ordered commissions for a world tour celebrating the 100-year anniversary of their trademark bottle shape, in which his artwork was spotlighted. Mars is a featured artist for a custom high end wallpaper and tile series...Category
