About the Item
Expression from the streets – highly evolved and intricate process of sketching and layering. There is no backing material. The collages are formed entirely from found posters. Hung with magnets in an ingenious method, can be framed as well.
Juxtaposition of relevant pop cultural imagery – politicians, rappers, celebrities, artists, and so forth creating tension and multiple viewpoints. Innovative use of scale in composition.
The act of “accumulating” things much like Duchamp and Arman from the street. Works are violent, dangerous, racial, and relevant to our time. Like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Michael has a gift of representing the moment and illustrating his time: a time of celebrity, palm pilots, TV, and so forth. His process is so raw that it brings new meaning to his imagery. There lies a tension between his subject matter and his process.
