About the Item

Renaud Bihi Untitled Charbon Charcoal 28 x 28 x 68 cm 11 x 11 x 26.8 in. Renaud Bihi, an artist of materials and a man of contrasts, has had a singular career in the art world. Once a well-known florist, he has made a remarkable conversion to a more perennial and authentic art form. Two decades ago, Renaud decided to leave the hustle and bustle of Paris to settle in Brittany. For him, this region embodies proximity to nature, direct contact with the earth and stone. It was here that he became the proud owner of a 17th-century manor house near Dinard. He then devoted part of his boundless energy to renovating this magnificent residence. From an early age, Renaud was a passionate do-it-yourselfer who loved to create with his own hands. Floral art, architectural renovation and artistic practice are all catalysts for his creativity. Renaud Bihi has also trained as a plucker, enabling him to blend the delicate, light art of featherwork with more raw, industrial materials. Renaud’s main inspiration lies in his encounter with matter, often favoring modest materials such as wood, silicone or building materials, which he sometimes combines with noble materials like diamonds or gold. What might seem banal to some takes on a new life under his expert hands. With each new material, he embarks on a learning curve, manipulating tweezers and blowtorches, wood glue and chainsaws alike. Whether using industrial, mineral or vegetable elements, Renaud’s artistic work transforms him into an alchemist capable of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Renaud Bihi embodies the fusion of craftsmanship, creativity and art, reminding us of the beauty hidden in the simplest materials. His life’s journey reflects his commitment to authenticity and connection to nature. He remains an unclassifiable artist, letting his creativity blossom as his inspiration and passion for materials take him.
