Earth, air, water, and fire are the center subjects of my art. I live in New York City-it is close to the ocean, and I’ve developed a deep affinity for the sea, which has also evoked sentiments in me for what has across on the other side of the ocean. Majestic mountains in Europe and the U.S. those I’ve seen with spectacular ridgelines or forms are what I want to pay homage to. The sky’s ever-changing atmosphere, fire’s brilliance, and all the energies embodied in nature are the most things that I am in awe of. —- Leigh Wen

Ms. Wen resides in New York City as a full-time artist. She has exhibited nationally and internationally since the early 1980s. She was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She received her BFA from Washington State University, MA, and MFA from the State University of New York at Albany. In 1979, she won the First Prize in Painting in the Ten Outstanding Young Talents Competition in Taiwan. In 1980, she was awarded Outstanding Merit in the Young Artists in Asia Now competition in Hong Kong. In 1995 and 1996, her work was selected in many national and international jury shows, including the ninth and tenth Parkside National Small Print Exhibition. Large Small Work '95' International, Small Works International, First Annual National Juried Small Work Exhibition in New York, NY. These shows are highly competitive and are chosen from thousands of submissions. Gough’s interest in the elusive quality of memory has always been an invariable interest in his art practice. Rooted in memories of his upbringing in Newfoundland, Gough’s paintings are autobiographical but carry universal narratives. In the absence of detail there is an opportunity for one’s own memories to develop. An expansive solitude and sense of isolation is met with a universal feeling of what it means to belong. This unique 16 inch square mixed media painting on panel explores our relationship with memory and the natural world. This piece is signed by the artist on the back and is wired and ready to hang. After excelling in art throughout his early education, he went on to study Fine Art at the University of Chester where he developed his painting style. Each of Herring’s paintings evolves through a spontaneous process.
