Suzan Etkin's passionate involvement with glass began in 1993, when she was invited to design sculptural chandeliers for gallery exhibitions with Giorgio Giuman and master glass blowers in Murano, Italy. Prior to working with glass as a medium she was the production manager for Andy Warhol Factory (Production Manager, Film & Video), and quickly emerged as a conceptual artist of global recognition. Her work has been shown in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Paul Kasmin Gallery, Holly Solomon Gallery, and other museums and galleries around the world. In 2001, Suzan founded sei studio in SoHo with her husband, Brenden FitzGerald. They have collaborated with some of the industry’s most innovative architects and interior designers to produce custom chandeliers and art features for hundreds of landmark spaces, including the W Hotel Seoul, Mandarin Oriental New York, and Intercontinental Hong Kong. The modern Sculpture " Stronghold ” is a unique metal piece made from a burnout mold by David Marshall in 2021, sand cast in aluminium and wood in our foundry, handcrafted by the Artist in his workshop is Spain. His signature certifies its authenticity. With more than 50 Years since his first exhibition in Spain, David Marshall has shown his highly individual work throughout Europe and United States. “ After all this years since my first show I am still fascinated by working in 3 dimensions – maybe because I cant draw or more likely because sculpture holds some obtuse subconscious obligation. It is still addictive and highly satisfying despite the onus of molding, casting, welding, polishing, fitting in a tough work environment before the final satisfaction of seeing the piece come together as envisaged. BlueBird is an elegant modern and minimalist contemporary wall sculpture. It is constructed with birch panels, acrylic and latex washes with a satin lacquer clear coat finish. It is completed with a gray MDF backer. The paint washes allow some of the wood grain to show through the paint and creates an almost marble-like appearance as the warm brown wood grain shows through the gradient white, navy and Bermuda blue tones. Bluebird is a piece that focuses on the movement of the composition, balance, and form by using this limited color palette.
