Ted Larsen
Whole Parts

2017

About

While Larsen is well known for his sculptural wall-based paintings, Whole Parts is part of a new body of work in which he works two-dimensionally. In Whole Parts, Larsen continues to use his signature technique and practice by using previously discarded materials such as salvaged steel and reclaimed cardboard to collage them together. Primary colors include white and hues of taupe, green, red, orange, blue and yellow. Constructivist, Bauhaus, abstract geometric, contemporary and cubist influenced piece. Expanding on what the “ready-made” can be, Larsen’s color palette is derived from the original color of the material, awarding recognition to the past life of the surface material, prior to its reincarnation as an art object.
