Artist Teresa Dirks explores the album, 'A Love Supreme' by American jazz saxophonist John Coltrane in a series that reflects her two-year research project of this monumental jazz piece. Hues of cool blues, magenta, and yellow color a horizontal plane of black and white blocks. "Coltrane’s work expressed a conscious attempt to change himself and the world," shares Teresa. "Throughout the series, jazz and instruments play a vital role through my palette choice, motif, mark-making, and movement. Rhythm is basic in both music and visual art and conveys patterns. Both arts share a loose language." Jazz and the nature of improvisation mesh well with Teresa's ascemic, linear work.
About the Artist
Teresa Dirk’s artistic voice is profoundly influenced by her upbringing in the rustic American south. Seamstresses, quilters, gardeners, and farmers, served as creative role models throughout her childhood that cultivated her love of nature, growth, and creativity. She works in mixed media to create abstracts that channel the energy of her past. Her paintings are deeply personal and carry precise meanings and particular stories to them. The whimsical lines and playful color choices lend themselves to a childlike quality that charms with nostalgia. Though each of her paintings reflect her personal surroundings and history, she delves into complex conceptual topics, such as urban decay and nature’s fundamental connections. She has a passion for the process, and views it as propagating the brilliant and expressive energy she has witnessed throughout her life.

Price Upon Request - Cypher #15By Tim CraigheadLocated in New Orleans, LAFramed with an archival mat and plexiglass with a dark maple wood frame. Framed dimensions are approximately 22 x 18 inches. Craighead describes his work as inhabiting a space between objective and nonobjective painting. The combination of these two worlds, serve as a matrix for what are essentially autobiographical paintings. He is interested in the symbolic potential of the objective world and the possibilities abstraction presents in suggesting the unknown. For a year in the mid-1990’s, circumstances forced Craighead out of his studio and he was left to work at a kitchen table on...Category
