About the Item
Questo splendido esempio di tecnica mista e serigrafia dei primi del Novecento è ispirato dalla serie manierista "Mesi e grottesche" realizzata a Bruxelles da Michel Coxcie (1499-1592) e Cornelis Floris (1514-1575), nello specifico all'Allegoria del mese di agosto. Date le notevoli dimensioni, è composto da tre tele centrali e sei strisce si tela lungo i bordi.
Al centro della scena, dentro un'edicola riccamente decorata, troneggia la figura di Cerere, la dea dell'abbondanza e del raccolto, che tiene una falce e il simbolo zodiacale della Vergine, attributi del mese d'agosto. Il resto della scena è occupato da grottesche caratterizzate da putti, vasi fioriti, animali e creature mitiche, mentre ai due lati si trovano due scenari campestri.
The rest is occupied by a red background on which are emerging grotesque characterized by puttis, vases with flowers, animals, mythical creatures, while at the two sides there are two countryside scenario.
