Christina Quarles
For Sorrow or Inspiration Bandana

2020

About the Item

These were a limited timed released where they were only sold for about a month. Would look amazing framed. Comes folded as issued in original envelope. Christina Quarles (born 1985) received an MFA in Painting from the Yale School of Art in 2016. Quarles’s gestural paintings, informed by her identity as a queer woman born to a black father and a white mother, challenge the viewer with their depictions of fragmented bodies that blur the boundaries that demarcate the self. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and abroad and is held in many national and international museum collections, including the Hammer Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Tate Modern, London; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. She is the recipient of the Perez Prize, Perez Art Museum, Miami (2019); Rema Hort Mann Emerging Artist Grant (2017), and the Robert Schoelkopf Fellowship at Yale University (2015). Christina Quarles lives and works in Los Angeles.
