About the Item
Plush Velvet, Bull Denim, Calico Cotton and 100% Cotton 40 x 44 inches, 2022 (Hanging hardware included)
Julian J. Jones quilts made from images taken from the artist’s gestural, abstract drawings are inspired by traditional African American quilting. Combining custom textiles with solid fabrics, Jones’ works embraces and incorporates an aggressive mingling of colors, shapes, and forms as a result of pure artistic intuition.
His works bridge drawing, sculpture, and textile to memorialize black culture. He communicates through the historical language of African American quilting by implementing abstract forms and vibrant colors in his works to bypass the viewer’s critical faculties and open a conversation around his Black experience.
