Triptych - bold, bright, colorful, abstract, modernist, tryptic oil on canvas
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Painterly bands of bright lemon, aqua, white and verdant green point to beach, sand and sky in this modernist triptych by David Sorensen. Through his painterly modern compositions, celebrated Canadian painter David Sorensen (1937-2011) sought to “give voice to the inner reality.” In the paintings from his last years, Sorensen offers solutions to the nature of abstraction – wresting nature and the horizon from pure form and brilliant colour. Born in Vancouver in 1937, Sorensen studied at UBC and the Vancouver School of Art under Arthur Erickson...

Somenath Maity - Untitled 30 x 30 inches (unframed size) Oil on canvas Inclusive of shipment in a roll form. About the Artist & his work : Born in 1960 at Midnapore in West Bengal, Somenath Maity studied Fine Arts at the College of Visual Arts in Kolkatta under the guidance of the senior and eminent Bengali artist, Shuvaprassana. After obtaining his degree here, Maity went on to receive a diploma in Fine Arts from the Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship, also in Kolkatta. Somenath Maity is self-professedly an artist of urban environments and cultures. Called avantgarde and unconventional for his landscapes, this artist’s favourite occupation is to find the inner beauty that exists in every big city and that most people don’t see or bother to look for, and then express it in his abstract oils on canvas. Maity builds up his paintings, all aptly titled "structure", one brush stroke at a time, almost as an architect would work on a blueprint for a building. Maity’s colors and textures are strong, bringing to the forefront the life of the urban sprawls that he paints, and investing them with a force that works beyond the life of their inhabitants, keeping them ticking no matter who comes or goes, lives or dies. Recognized today as one of Bengal's important new emerging painters, Maity has already exhibited his works at many major Indian and European galleries. He has won awards and scholarships from most of the major Indian fine art...

The Life of Rose Buds, Oil Painting
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Blushing pink roses unfurl amongst young delicate buds. Artist Hilary Gomes captured the floral display as they were greeted by the morning light. She painted the scene from the Filoli Gardens at the Filoli Historic House and Garden in California. Hilary starts her process with a raw umber underpainting on textured linen that adds a touch of character to the piece. She then paints with an indirect oil painting method using a naturalistic palette. "The painting symbolizes the start of love."

Through Shadows Cast By Falling Snowflakes
Located in San Diego, CA
"Through Shadows Cast By Falling Snowflakes" depicts snowy mountain scene. This scene is of no particular place, but rather his interpretation and compilation of various places he has visited. As a painter, I examine how the depiction of light contributes to our experience of paintings. The portrayal of light helps a painting to convey the atmosphere and mood of a scene, and is much of what enables a painting to convey depth and realism. Our perception of lighting features occurs largely through pathways in the brain that carry only black and white information, pathways which are distinct from areas that encode the colors and details we use to delineate specific objects. By painting in grayscale, I try to interact specifically with this region of our visual system, with the hope of conveying some of the spaciousness and emotional significance that light can imbue on scenes. Light, whether as the crisp contrast of a back-lit forest or the gray haze of an industrial landscape, is what defines a scene. Its power to communicate the feel of a place is the principle subject of my paintings. The Blue Azul Collection...

One Of The Ways
Located in San Diego, CA
"One Of The Ways" depicts a densely populated grove. As with other of Carpenter's paintings, this scene invites viewers to look closer and also to go out to explore nature.
