Catfish, 100x80cm
This is a painting from the Lycanthropy series. It is basically a mental illness in which, usually as a result of trauma, the individual refuses to associate himself with a human being and sees an animal in the reflection, feels hair on his skin, reacts to lunar cycles, and so on. Modern people are forced to put on masks, comply with the dress code at work, the norms of morality in society. But until now, like pagans, they dream of possessing animal strength.
Max Orlitsky explores the human response to and adaptation to all sorts of change, focusing on the tipping point when mental transformation becomes physical, creating an entirely new hybrid creation. Orlitsky also reveals our animal nature, personifying instincts and erasing the boundaries of human norms.
