Sally Adams
Island Pony, Original Painting

2021

About the Item

Artist Comments
Artist Sally Adams paints a lone brown horse on a verdant landscape. She draws inspiration from the wild ponies on the islands off the coast of South Carolina. "This one appeared so peaceful and gentle as I approached to capture the reference photo," shares Sally.

About the Artist
Artist Sally Adams produces ethereal scenes with intimate simplicity and clarity of expression. She takes to heart advice given by her childhood mentor that less is more. “I only paint the core components necessary to convey an emotional connection,” says Sally. She recalls creativity being her innate and lifelong passion. Her favorite Christmas present was a set of oil paints with brushes gifted years back, one or two of which she still uses to this day. Sally consciously intends to extract beauty from everyday life by recreating fragments of feeling into her compositions. The sights, sounds, and fragrances of nature endlessly inspire and give her stimuli. “Pickledog”, her home studio in Michigan is an ode to her beloved furry companion of 15 years. Oftentimes, she shares the studio space with her daughter, a skilled artist as well, such as her mother.

  • To Be Alive Beneath Cherry Blossoms, Original Painting
    By Jennifer Ross
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
Artist Jennifer Ross paints a portrait of a bay horse in an orchard of flowering cherry trees. The majestic equine frolics under the blooms of spring. Cool blue terrain envelopes the background, giving the painting a sense of peace and composure. She bases the title on the Japanese haiku by Kobayashi Issa. The entire poem reads "What a strange thing! To be alive beneath cherry blossoms."

    About the Artist
Artist Jennifer Ross creates intimate portraits of birds, nests and horses. Jennifer grew up surrounded by the art of her mother and grandfather. Her attempt to follow in their footsteps presented detours, however, and she ended up working in art galleries selling other's work. But her desire to paint continued to grow throughout the years. In 2008, a gift certificate...

  • Colt Stare, Original Painting
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
Artist Heather Foster paints a pair of horses along a road that leads to the Galisteo Dam in New Mexico. "The light was amazing at that time of day," recalls Heather. She combines hues that accentuate the cool shadows and warm colors that were quickly fading with the sun. Masterful plays of shadow and light rule this outback acrylic piece.

    About the Artist
Artist Heather Foster captures an enduring image of the West. She paints the dramatic landscapes and stalwart animals she encounters on her adventures to ranches and rodeos. Heather says she has always known she wanted to be an artist. As a child, she spent her weekends and summers riding the bus into Philadelphia to attend art classes at Philadelphia College of Art, Moore College of Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Over the years, she's moved around the country quite a bit and done many jobs - everything from driving a pedicab (a giant tricycle that transports passengers) to art restoration and conservation (for one project, she unstretched and then restretched a $17 million painting that would not fit through the door of the buyer's house). The one constant though, no matter where she lived or what side jobs she held, she always made space and time to paint. Today, she works from a home studio in Santa Fe...
