About the Item
Salla Alla Muhammad An-Nabi - Arabic Calligraphy is a beautiful and precious manuscript with Islamic Sacred Verses in an ancient calligraphy style.
One page, one-sided, in Arabic, the original sheet (cm 17 x 11) is in excellent condition, under plexiglass, with an ivory passe-partout, framed with an ebony frame (cm 34.5 x 2.3 x 28.5).
The script is in black ink with some words in red ink.
In the top of the sheet and the right side there are small words hard to read. In the right margin and in the central area of the manuscript the main script is written in bigger words. On the right side of the sheet, all the small words are written contrariwise, from down to up.
The balance between these small words written from down to up, with the main bigger script and less words written from up to down, makes this piece of art unique. In the left side also we see the bent small words which are harmonized with the other two forms of the scripts.
The words in red ink of script are written in distinctive color to emphasis on the importance and the holiness of them, these words are:
“Allah”, “Muhammad the Prophet”, “Sal Allah”, which means “Peace of God be upon Him ( Muhammad) and his family”. The last one is a famous praying phrase in the Islamic world, that just the two first words of this phrase are written in red ink.
This proper original manuscript represents the extraordinary beauty, sobriety and simplicity which in Islamic culture has a deep root. It is a remarkable artwork for who search for simplicity and dignified through art.
The traditional instrument of the Islamic calligrapher is the Qalam, a pen normally made of dried reed or bamboo. The ink is often in color and chosen so that its intensity can vary greatly, creating dynamism and movement in the letterforms. Some styles are often written using a metallic-tip pen. For centuries, the art of writing has fulfilled a central iconographic function in Islamic art.
As Islamic calligraphy is highly venerated, most works follow examples set by well established calligraphers, In the Islamic tradition, calligraphers underwent extensive training, including the study of their teacher's models, in order to be granted certification.

- Map of Palestine or Judea, Illustrating the History of the New TestamentBy Rev. Nathan B. RogersLocated in New York, NYPen and ink on paper, laid down on canvas, mounted to wooden scroll bars Signed and dated lower right: “Drawn by N. B. Rogers August. 1843” Inscribed with an ownership inscription on the verso: Rev. E. D. Daniels, Palmer, Mass. Provenance: Rev. Eugene Davidson Daniels, Palmer, Massachusetts, 1871 This extraordinary manuscript map is a rare survivor of the devotional and educational culture of New England in the first half of the nineteenth century. Although at first glance resembling a large-scale engraving or printed publication, this precisely rendered wall map was entirely drawn by hand, the product of meticulous research by a minister working in isolation in rural Maine. The map shows New Testament era cities, towns, tribal areas, and political borders as well as physical features such as rivers, lakes, mountains, and hills (indicated by half-tone cross-hatching). On to this geographically accurate rendering of the Holy Land, Rogers has located and inscribed significant locales mentioned in the Gospels and has annotated these places with relevant citations from the Bible. He further records these by plotting the travels of Jesus on what resemble a series of trails across the Holy Land. Each is distinguished by a different pattern of dots and dashes – correlated to an explanatory table at the lower right. From this we know that these lines document the “Flight into Egypt and return,” “Travels of Christ from Nazareth to Jerusalem and return,” “Travels from the commencement of his Ministry to the first Passover,” “Travels from the first and the second Passover,” “Travels from Jerusalem to Galilee after the 2nd Passover,” and “Travels from the third Passover to the Crucifixion.” An inset map of “Jerusalem...Category

- Mayday No. 28, 1989, by Karl Gerich of Bath - Playing Card Proof PrintLocated in Meinisberg, CHKarl Alexander Gerich (English, 23.4.1956 - 4.1.2016) Mayday No. 28, 1989 - Etching - Sheet ca. 37.5 x 26.1 cm - Plate ca. 32.6 x 23.5 cm You ask why this pack is called Mayday ? Well, the pack was finished on the 1st of May, 1989 – The day Steven Denis won the World Snooker Championship. Karl was a passionate snooker fan and this is how he marked the victory of his hero, who he also made the joker of this pack. The proof sheet printed in blue depicts all the court cards, title card, joker & that extra SD joker and the box in which the pack would live. Sheet is in good condition and suitable to be framed. Karl was a brilliant playing card maker and certainly one of the most genius artist-craftsmen I had the pleasure to learn about his work and know. He could do it all: Come up with the tale, weave meaning(s) into it, fill it with spirited characters of his liking, draw it, etch it, print it, colour it and handcraft the inks, paper and card into wondersome packs of playing cards, each of them living in their own, most exquisitely crafted boxes. Every pack a magical marvel, filled with the spirit of this genius card maker … All this he did using his Adana printing press, very simple hand tools and great skill. When Karl closed down his studio in St.Peter’s Terrace in Bath, England and moved to Poplar Close, he sold off work for which he felt he no longer wanted to be the custodian. So a number of prints reached the market then. Printed sheets by Karl Gerich...Category
