Signed “Ichimosai Yoshitora ga” and “Ittosai Toshitsuna ga” and dated “Kaei 5” (1851). No Editor. Including 50+1 original illustrations, 39 of which by Yoshitora and 11 of which by Yoshitsuna.

Cover on blue light cardboard, worn and faded; inside pages worn on edges and some small holes due to woodworm on some pages including on some of the illustrations. Some of the illustrations and hand coloured. Rare and valuable volume, commonly incomplete and divided in single sheets/illustrations.
1st volume including 50 heroes in their childhood, among which Minamoto no Yoshitsune (Ushiwakamaru), Benkei (Oniwakamaru), Minamoto no Yoshinaka (Kamaomaru), Kusunoki Masashige (Tamonmaru), Soga Juro Sukenari (Ichimanmaru), Soga Goro Tokimune (Akoomaru) and many others. Each hero is surrounded by biographical text written by Shotei Kinsui.
