Artist Ziui Vance shares this poem she wrote for the piece: Never does it profit a bear to leave the sheets idle and damp. Neither does it benefit the moment to set them off to barren crags.Instead, march deep into the needs of the day, every day.Refresh yourself with the smell of fresh linens.And spryly reach for what is needed. A pink bear with a pink blouse, gloves, and a white dress is busy hanging her laundry on a clothesline. Ziui's work commonly reflects on everyday life scenes. Her depictions of the familiar teddy bear range from working in the home to traditional activities plying at the artisanal history of trades. The artwork is in a metal frame with tempered glass.
About the Artist
Chinese artist Ziui Vance is a Michigan-based painter who works in both oil and acrylic paint. Through her artwork, Ziui strives to set up the relationship between the viewer and the artwork as one of a guest and host. Her paintings offer the viewer access into her own world of imagination. Growing up in a small secluded town in China, she used art as a means of exploration and escape and developed her practice from a young age. Her abstract work are reminiscent paintings by Mark Rothko, while her figurative work has similarities to Chinese contemporary artists Yue Minjun and Zhang Xiaogang. Ziui has a BA in design from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China and an MFA in art from University of Michigan. She is represented by UGallery.
