About the Item

Born in San Diego, California, on March 17, 1962, my journey with art has been deeply intertwined with my experiences both in life and within the bar and restaurant industry, where I currently co-own Uptown Tavern in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. My professional life has revolved around community building and connection, and this spirit of engagement also informs my creative practice. From a young age, art became my sanctuary and outlet, offering me a language to express emotions and ideas that words often couldn't capture. I received formal training at the San Diego Art Institute, where I explored various mediums, including drawing, painting, and stone sculpture. Throughout my artistic evolution, I have drawn inspiration from the works of Gerard Richter, Joan Miró, and Jackson Pollock, whose ability to channel raw emotion into abstract form resonates deeply with me. As someone who has grappled with depression, my art serves as both a release and a means of healing. The act of painting allows me to confront and transform these powerful emotions, creating space for both expression and introspection. It’s through this creative process that I’ve found a sense of peace, a way to transcend the darkness, and a renewed appreciation for the beauty in my life. Art, for me, is a journey of self-discovery and transformation. The canvas is my space to explore, to express, and to evolve. I am grateful for the progress I have made, and I now find myself in a place where I can use my art to both reflect on my past and celebrate the strength that has come from it. It’s my hope that, through my work, others can find their own sense of peace and connection, just as I have.
