A wonderfully curious painting, whose untold history is something to marvel at given the details at hand. When reviewing the verso, you will find that the total expanse of the canvas is made up of two individual pieces stitched together to fit the size of the stretcher. Given the location (Hawaii) one might imagine that supplies were harder or more expensive to come by, so this would have been the best solution. Additionally, Hawaii in the 1970s was a time of cultural renaissance, rapid growth, and political activism. This painting was created at the forefront of a decade that would help shape the future of the islands.
