The abstract paintings of Vincent Pomilio can be hypnotizing in their dense, intricate organization. In addition to acrylic paint, Pomilio's works are made with pigmented Venetian plaster and wax, allowing the artist to achieve an arresting range of textures across the picture space. Through a process of adding and subtracting layers of paint, Pomilio "excavates" each composition until it avers its finality. In this painting, he has rhythmically rendered a series of shapes — circles and rectangles, alternatively — to effect an image that vibrates with movement. This sense of energy is supported by his choice in color: a punchy orange set against a ground of deep purple.

Vincent Pomilio holds an MFA from NYU and has been exhibited widely, including recent solo shows at Hal Bromm Gallery in New York, NY and the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Center in Kingston, NY.
