About the Item

A one-of-a-kind mixed media drawing by world renowned artist, Andre Kohn. "Forever Wild & Free" embodies a combination of classical training techniques with the artists signature modern, refined & sophisticated style. It measures 80" x 35" and incorporates charcoal, oil, unique layered texture, pencil, ink, poetry & features a striking portrait of mans true best friends. Also included is an authentic pulley-system custom designed by the artist for a truly unique & Western style hanging system. (not pictured in Interior photo) For about 30 years now Andre Kohn was highly inspired by the drawings of Renaissance masters, some including Raphael, Michelangelo, & Da Vinci. While at the University of Moscow, he studied the paintings of great masters, and was enamored with their drawings for a multitude of reasons. Andre loved to see the leftover “search lines” and was intrigued by the monochromatic nature, the light transparent character, and most of all, feeling the sense of discovery. With his already well trained eye, he could actually 'see' how the drawings were developed and how he could follow the creative process to develop his own signature look. All of these characteristics can now can be found in Andre’s, brilliantly executed drawings where a connoisseur could easily detect the master’s influence. Andre Kohn almost never uses the eraser … and on purpose … leaving his “search lines” visible to the viewer and strongly believes it makes the makes the drawings more intriguing. By doing so, he also invites the viewer to participate in his very own creative process …letting in on the sense of discovery. This is exactly what his collectors find truly unique, often not hesitating long before acquiring them for their own private collections. Besides love and affinity for human figure, Andre has always been intrigued by the man’s true best friend .. the horse. Equine themes became his genuine passion in 1992 when he had a show in Bulgaria and met a fellow artist who was at the time his sponsor. “Antony Sofev’s execution in charcoal and understanding the exquisite freedom of this loving animal was so deep and profound , I couldn’t help myself but learn everything I could about the equine art “ says Andre Kohn . Andre was inspired to visit ranches & connect with horse lovers everywhere he traveled. He has completed numerous commissions for ranch owners in the south east and later brought his passion to the west coast of the US, at some point exhibiting his work at the Museum of the Horse, in Lexington, Kentucky. Now using the large format Andre Kohn expresses his love, passion, and knowledge for hoses by combining intriguing texture and dynamic & bold charcoal strokes with contemporary approach … still remaining loyal to the timeless master’s techniques. Despite Kohn’s unrepeatable pallet, personally developed style, and unique interpretation of form, his art education is enduring. From his home in Arizona, Kohn travels the world for inspiration and periodically returns to France to continue his formal, classical studies. Due to his travels, his widely popular style has a European influence with a Modern impressionist flare. Kohn’s work is now represented by premier galleries in the United States and he is a regular contributor to invitational exhibitions. He is a frequent subject of highly regarded art publications, and his unique ability to communicate the expressiveness of the human form has kept him a mainstay in private, corporate and permanent museum collections worldwide. Andre currently resides and paints at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he owns his own gallery, Andre Kohn Fine Art.
