Francisco Domingo Marqués was a Spanish painter born in Valencia in 1842. He was a self-taught artist who began his career as a decorative painter before turning to portraiture, genre scenes, and landscapes. Marqués gained recognition for his realistic depictions of everyday life and his ability to capture the essence of his subjects. In 1864, Marqués moved to Madrid and joined the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, where he studied under Federico de Madrazo. He quickly became a prominent member of the Madrid art scene and exhibited his works at numerous prestigious exhibitions, including the National Exhibition of Fine Arts and the Paris Salon.
