Victorian oil on canvas mounted on stretchers showing Hereford Cow and 2 others with sheep in background. Beautiful and tranquil landscape housed in its original restored gilt frame.

French Barbizon School oil on canvas painting of cattle in a landscape by Pablo Martinez, second half of the 19th century. This French plein air painting features an exquisite depiction of Cattle, painted in the Romantic tradition of The Barbizon School, lead by the charismatic Camille Corot. The artists of the movement explored the vast possibilities of plein-air painting, in the mesmerizing forest of Fontainebleau, in the south or Paris. Thanks to the invention of paint in tubes, the Barbizon artists could satisfy their desire to paint on site, leading the way for Impressionist artists. The oil is set inside a giltwood frame, most likely the original frame, the gold has been refreshed more recently.
