A Young Lee
Nice To Meet You

2014

About the Item

Furry friends always stay around us and bring joy and happiness. A Young Lee uses powder pigments and Jangji (Korean Paper) that maximize the depiction of soft fur and a warm feeling. The artist leaves a space for the dogs to play more as well as for your imagination. ARTIST STATEMENT I may not carry such a grand theme like others in my artwork. I merely draw things I like. Something that I have affection for and many people could feel sympathy for, makes me happy while painting. Various stories are created when interacting with them freely. One day a small dog in my arms gave me a story gift. The stories are even more amusing than comedy, sweeter than any of the other romance films, and as exciting as adventure film. I unfold the stories one by one on the canvas. I wish the dogs in my paintings deliver laughter, happiness and love.

A small octopus is inked in the Japanese style of Gyo-Taku print making. Using sumi ink to "print" the octopus, the artist then embellishes it with colored pencil to convey an extraordinary dimensionality. By printing it on a nautical chart, in this case a pilot chart of the Northern Atlantic Ocean from 1945, the artist achieves a beautiful aesthetic. The artwork is unframed. Please contact the gallery for framing options. This tradition dates back to the mid-1800s and was used by fishermen to record their catches, but has also become an art form of its own. Prints were made using Sumi ink and Washi paper. It is rumored that Samurai would settle fishing competitions using Gyotaku prints...
