Chris McAdoo
Manifest - Waiting

About the Item

Manifest Waiting displays three canoes configured in a minimalist space of white, black, and red with an intricate textured background. McAdoo's Manifest series depicts the creative stupor of the need to return to the foundational elements of mark-making. Harsh black lines from a found railroad spike are drawn throughout the composition in a repetitive manner to take away the comfort of the paintbrush along with hand-written text: "waiting". "There's a power in holding something and knowing that it was forged by hand, that the marks were made by someone's hand and you now hold the tool in yours - to make your own mark. I think that in an age of technology and “artificial intelligence”, we are all too often entranced by the newest thing, by technology that we can't live without. All of this modern manifestation of humanity is nothing without the foundational elements of who we are as people and who we are as people are creators. We're storytellers. We started thousands of years ago making marks on the side of caves to tell stories to each other, to remember and connect. The “Manifest” series is about remembering that visceral connection to our own humanity, and connecting with each other. "
