Chris McAdoo
Is That What You Meant?

About the Item

Is That What You Meant? displays canoes repeating throughout the composition with fluid movements of color dripping down the surface. The canoe has become a fixture in McAdoo’s work, becoming a universally recognized “vessel” to carry memories, emotions, and points of view through the liminal space between destinations. "This is where it all started for me. A boat is like an empty canvas - it’s like a clean sheet of paper - the ultimate “liminal space”. College ruled notebook paper. Or a blinking cursor on a computer screen. All at once terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. Like life. I’ve been enamored with the shape and purpose of a boat - not just as transportation but as a VESSEL. A vessel for time, for dreams, for memories…a vessel from one shore to the next. The sweet liminal space. The quiet. The contemplative. The inner self. The sound of a paddle pushing against the water. Can you hear it? Water - it’s the sound of laughter. It's the sound of stillness. In a world of movement."
